Synesthesia was always something I thought everyone had, so I just disregarded it… but I realized I was suppressing not only my gifts, but myself as well…

I became obsessed with expressing suppressed parts of my journey as I saw them through my synesthesia lens: as color, form, and texture

And by connecting to that impression, the music literally flowed out!!

All of this after 25 years of not being able to finish writing anything I was proud of 🤪

We are conditioned❗️to be hard on ourselves

We get used to that feeling and it is

🫤UNCOMFORTABLE to receive kindness from others or ourselves…

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard

🗣️” I need to be harder on myself” or “I’m not doing enough” or

🗣️“I want a coach that YELLS at me or will PUT ME IN MY PLACE”… or

Why do these colors affect singing at all?? 🎨

First, know I did NOT do multiple takes. This is the true reaction to each color and

🚨EVERY SINGER needs to know:

🧠 Your BRAIN controls your instrument.

🧐 Think about it. If your brain is detecting threat, so is your voice.

🌈 your brain processes COLOR according to instinctive responses and your current state

These colors are not absolute, based on your current state, different colors might help you

⚖️find BALANCE and reduce THREAT

Tension in the tongue, jaw, and throat will alter EVERYTHING about your singing 😳

You’ll want to SAVE this one for later ‼️

Here are the steps:

1. Start with 👅 on outside of top teeth
2. go around the 🌏 😬 (mouth closed)
3. Start SLOW and with 3-5 cycles
4. Switch directions 🔄
5. Make sure shoulders and chin are chilling
6. BREATHE throughout
7. Swallow after and let it go

1. Obviously it coordinates and relaxes the muscles in your throat/larynx 👅

BYE TONGUE TENSION 👋

2. Your 🧠 reallyyyy cares 😰 about your swallow. Doing this particular drill…

👉🏻 Improves/resets your swallow AND proves to the brain that there’s nothing to worry about

This gives more space for your 🧠 to RELAX and lend more energy to singing.

🌊If you do this enough, it will FLOOD the nervous system with release. Helping your voice, your nerves, your muscles etc.

‼️ So try singing BEFORE, then SWALLOW, then SING the same thing and notice the difference.

Where would we be without the arts? Art opens the doorway for

I saw two (outstanding) very emotionally charged shows this weekend…

And sitting in a room of complete strangers..

✨we were all UNIFIED and feeling things that we might not have otherwise felt

❤️‍🔥NEVER doubt your worth as an artist. The simple fact that you ARE is proof that your work matters and has power.

Instead of seeking perfection or praise, I challenge you to

👉🏻 get out of your own way so you can express and be a CONDUIT for others to experience

⚖️ assess your balance. Nurture your “non-physical” self

You want to be a great singer so you search the internet…

You get some new exercises and they seem to do something… 🧐 🤷‍♀️

But you just keep hitting WALL after WALL.

It’s disappointing and confusing. WHY are you not getting better?? Are you not good enough?

We’ve all been there. It’s not that the exercises necessarily suck, but rather

They aren’t meant for YOU. The downside to doing it yourself and using the internet:

❌ wasting time with what you don’t even need
❌ no one to watch/listen if you’re doing it right
❌ Too many to choose from😵‍💫
❌ not buildable so it stays stagnant
❌ no accountability or motivation
❌ restricts your awareness building
❌ no one to answer your questions

Etc.

I will say, I think free internet guidance is GREAT,

but if you want to be a PRO and have a mindset where you have to do everything free and on your own…

🫠 you can only get so far. Sorry.
